Find your customs code (HS code)
Search by product, description or code. You get the 8-digit CN code to use in declarations, with the international 6-digit HS code.
The information provided by this tool is based on the official EU Combined Nomenclature and is for indicative purposes only. Emawerly does not guarantee the completeness of the data or the customs outcome of shipments and accepts no liability. For duty rates and tariff measures, use TARIC.

HS, CN and TARIC: what’s the difference?
Three levels of the same goods classification system: more digits, more detail.
HS code
The Harmonized System of the World Customs Organization. The first 6 digits are shared by more than 200 countries and territories and apply across international trade.
CN code
The European Union’s Combined Nomenclature: the 6 HS digits plus 2 EU digits. This is the code you find with this tool.
TARIC code
The CN plus 2 digits for EU tariff measures: duties, restrictions and quotas. It is needed in import declarations and can be checked on TARIC.
How to find the right customs code
- 01
Describe the product
Search by product name or keyword. Material, function and use help narrow down the results.
- 02
Follow the hierarchy
Each result shows chapter, heading and subheading. Open the entry to read the full description and its path in the nomenclature.
- 03
Check the details
Compare features and the official description: classification depends on what the product is made of and what it is for, not on its trade name.
- 04
Copy the code and check duties
Copy the CN or HS code and check rates and measures on TARIC before filling in the declaration.
Customs codes: the answers.
What is a customs code (HS code)?
It is a numeric code that classifies goods in international trade. It is based on the Harmonized System (HS) of the World Customs Organization: the first 6 digits are shared by more than 200 countries and territories, while each area adds its own detail digits.
What is the difference between HS, CN and TARIC codes?
The HS code has 6 digits and is international. The CN code (Combined Nomenclature) has 8: the 6 HS digits plus 2 specific to the European Union. The TARIC code has 10 and adds the subdivisions the EU uses to apply duties and other measures. This tool gives you the 8-digit CN code and the 6-digit HS code.
What is a customs code used for?
It identifies the goods in import and export customs declarations, on commercial invoices and in non-EU shipping documents, as well as in trade statistics. It determines the duties that apply and any restrictions, licences or checks.
How do I choose the right code for my product?
Start from the product name, then read the official description and the hierarchy of chapter, heading and subheading. Classification depends on the product’s characteristics, such as material, composition and use. In doubtful cases, ask a customs broker or request a binding tariff information (BTI) decision from the customs authority.
How often does the Combined Nomenclature change?
The Combined Nomenclature is updated every year: the new version is published in autumn and takes effect on 1 January. Some codes are added, changed or removed. This tool uses the 2026 version and lets you see only the codes that are new this year.
Is the tool free? Where does the data come from?
Yes, it is free and needs no registration. The data is the official EU Combined Nomenclature (EU Vocabularies, Publications Office of the European Union), available in English, Italian, French and Spanish. The information is indicative only: always refer to TARIC for rates and measures.
